Kuroko V Slam Dunk Kanagawa Update Released

The much-anticipated Kuroko V Slam Dunk: Kanagawa Update has been released! The Kanagawa Update features six new Slam Dunk teams, a new jukebox & basketball, multiple cyberface updates, animations and ratings edits as well as error fixes!

Six New Slam Dunk Teams

Like the Winter Cup beta, the rosters are divided into three rosters. For Ryonan, the first roster features the lineup against Shohoku during the practice game, where Kicchou Fukuda is still banned from playing. The second roster features the lineup against Kainan where Akira Sendoh played Point Guard and the third lineup features the lineup against Shohoku in the Final Four of the Kanagawa Prefecture Tournament. For Shoyo, since they had one game in the anime, the first roster features the lineup against Shohoku during the first half of the game, thus Kenji Fujima is still on the bench. The second and third rosters have Fujima starting as they represent the second half of that match. For Kainan, the first and second rosters feature the lineup game against Shohoku, with Shinichi Maki 's brushed up hair and Kiyota Nobunaga's long hair. The third roster features the lineup against Ryonan where Maki's hair is no longer brushed up and Nobunaga's hair is rolled to make it shorter. Miuradai, (the first team Shohoku faced in the Kanagawa Prefecture Tournament), Ryokufu (the team with Michael Okita from the third OVA, not really from Kanagawa), and Takezono (the team with Oda from Wako Junior High from the first OVA that also appears in the anime with a match against Kainan) were all added with no distinctions between the three rosters.

Updated Cyberfaces & Roster

KoroX and Seushir0 both made cyberfaces for the Kanagawa Update with KoroX creating the cyberfaces for Ryonan, Shoyo, Kainan, and Ryokufu while Seushir0 created the cyberfaces for Miuradai and Takezono. Cyberfaces for some Kuroko No Basuke players have also been updated. An error to Mayuzumi's (Rakuzan) was fixed for this version, and Kaijo now has a yellow headband color (for Kise's zone) while Seirin (Season 3) and Team Vorpal Swords have orange headband colors. Ryonan is the only team with an alternate jersey (yellow secondary color instead of light blue) as seen in the OP and a few official images for Slam Dunk. Some animations, ratings, tendencies and signature skills were also updated. A blank basketball file has also been included in the Optional Files, where it is an ordinary leather ball without the Spalding logo and text on it.

New Jukebox by zackiritoryan

zackiritoryan of NLSC made a major contribution to Kuroko V Slam Dunk and as such is now considered part of the very small modding team we have. The settings (Kuroko V Slam Dunk Sliders) files have also been modified to completely remove the Commentator, PA and Player Chatter volumes in place of In-Game Music as we already have the complete soundtrack from both anime in our jukebox. The jukebox features all of the soundtrack from both anime, with two OPs & four EDs from Slam Dunk, seven OPs and seven EDs from Kuroko No Basuke. The list of songs are:

  • GRANRODEO - Can Do
  • OLDCODEX - CATALRHYTHM
  • Maki Ohguro - Anata Dake Mitsumeteru
  • Hyadain - Start it right away
  • BAAD - Kimi Ga Suki Da To Sakebitai
  • GRANRODEO - RIMFIRE
  • GRANRODEO - The Other Self
  • OLDCODEX - WALK
  • ZYYG - Zettai ni Daremo
  • MANISH - Kirameku Toki ni Torawarete
  • Zard - My Friend
  • GRANRODEO - Memories
  • SCREEN mode - Ambivalence
  • Fo'x Tails - GLITTER DAYS
  • GRANRODEO - Punky Funky Love
  • OLDCODEX - Lantana
  • WANDS - Sekai ga Owaru Made Wa
  • GRANRODEO - Hengen Jizai No Magical Star
  • Kensho Ono - FANTASTIC TUNE
  • Kensho Ono - ZERO

Future Plans

As mentioned in the previous post regarding Kuroko V Slam Dunk, more teams will be added to complete the 15 Slam Dunk teams and for Kuroko V Slam Dunk to no longer be in beta. The teams to be added are Aiwa Academy, Daiei Academy, Jousei High, Meihou High, Sannoh Industry Affiliated High, Toyotama High and Tsukubu High. There will be plans to add retro versions of teams such as Shohoku, Kainan and Shoyo (2 Years Ago) when Akagi, Mitsui, Kogure, Maki and Fujima were rookies. There are also plans to include Tomigaoka Junior High and Takeishi Junior High (Hisashi Mitsui and Kaede Rukawa's middle schools). Special Slam Dunk teams will also be added in the next version such as the Shoyo & Ryonan merged team, possibly a Slam Dunk All-Stars team to match up with Team Vorpal Swords & Team Jabberwock.

It is expected that the next version will officially launch Kuroko V Slam Dunk out of beta as it will then have MyCareer & Association Modes available, which was the goal from the very beginning. We hope to bring you a total conversion mod once Kuroko V Slam Dunk is out of beta. We also hope to find a talented stadium modder to create stadiums for Kuroko V Slam Dunk similar to the anime, different from the realistic NBA 2K stadiums we are all used to. In the future, expect Title Screens, Globals, Gamedata, Storyboards, etc. that will breathe a new life to Kuroko V Slam Dunk for NBA 2K14! Also don't be afraid to bring up suggestions if you feel as if there are more things to improve on for Kuroko V Slam Dunk.

Please be reminded that this is only a BETA which means you should not expect it to work for MyCareer, Association, or any mode and is release purely for the purposes of allowing Quick Game and Blacktop modes. For now, enjoy the release of the Kanagawa Update. All of the files have been re-uploaded and are now in the same method of downloading as the other mods from this series (FIBA 2K14 & PBA 2K14). Although no new logos for Kuroko V Slam Dunk were really added, the new BBVA Rising Stars logo for Med's NBA Roster, Phoenix Fuel Masters and Tropang TNT logos for PBA 2K14 were all updated into the Logos file for compatibility purposes. Make sure you download all of the new files and have fun! A changelog page will be added soon!

Med's NBA Roster v3.7 & Universal Portrait Project v3.2 Released

The 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend and Trade Deadline have passed and there have been many changes in the NBA. New jerseys, new player transactions and coaching changes as well as the addition of the NBA All-Star Team updates for the East & West All-Stars and even the Team World & Team USA rosters make their debut in Med's NBA Roster!

2016 NBA All-Star Update

The 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend has been released with updated East & West All-Star jerseys by Pepis21, Team World & Team USA jerseys by iamSamke, as well as a All-Star Air Canada Centre update containing an updated stadium and floors by Mythbuster. The All-Star Game between the East & West All-Stars has the TISSOT floor while the Rising Stars Challenge between Team World & Team USA has the BBVA Compass Floor. The rosters are updated for both teams with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James playing Center for both teams as they were the ones at the jump ball.

Don't forget to download the 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend in Toronto presentation which have also been uploaded in the Downloads section if you don't have it yet. We've also reuploaded the 2015-2016 NBA Logos file in the Downloads section which contains the new logos for the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge as well as the new logos for PBA 2K14, Phoenix Fuel Masters and Tropang TNT, the logos for FIBA 2K14 and Kuroko V Slam Dunk have also been updated to contain these logos.

Chinese New Year Jerseys for Houston Rockets & Washington Wizards

iamSamke also provided new Chinese New Year jerseys for the Houston Rockets and the Washington Wizards. It is expected that the new Sacramento Kings Alternate Court will be added to the next update once it has been made.

Coaching Changes

The New York Knicks have fired Head Coach Derek Fisher and replaced him with Kurt Rambis, while the Phoenix Suns have fired Head Coach Jeff Hornacek for Earl Watson. This new roster update also updates Tyronn Lue as Head Coach for the East All-Stars, and Gregg Popovich as Head Coach for the West All-Stars.

Player Transactions

The trade deadline has come and a total of 28 players were moved since the last update (January 28). A total of 12 players were waived with no major trades happening. No players went overseas meaning no players were removed from the roster, while a new player Alex Stepheson has been added to the roster as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers.

BBVA Scoreboard Logo

An updated BBVA Scoreboard Logo for the Default 2K Scoreboard has also been uploaded for those who want to update their scoreboard logo. This is the logo that shows up for Team World and Team USA. I will not be making a version of this for different scoreboards.

Universal Portrait Project Update

The Universal Portrait Project has also been updated from v3.1 to v3.2 . This update features the new portraits for the new coaches to be added in FIBA 2K14 v4.2, as well as the portraits for the new player added to the NBA roster update, namely Alex Stepheson, as well as adding Tyler Wilkerson of the San Miguel Beermen for the upcoming PBA 2K14 update.

Future Updates

Kuroko V Slam Dunk: Kanagawa Update (v0.2) is confirmed to be released this weekend which might also coincide with the long-awaited FIBA 2K14 v4.2 update. The Kanagawa Update for Kuroko V Slam Dunk will include a total of five new Slam Dunk teams (Miuradai, Takezono, Ryonan, Shoyo and Kainan) and new cyberface updates and error fixes. It will also feature the new Jukebox for Kuroko V Slam Dunk. FIBA 2K14 v4.2 will include updated Iran and Italy rosters, as well as predicted 2016 lineups for both USA and the Philippines.

PBA 2K14 will hopefully be released next week with much of the progress expected to be finished this weekend. A new scoreboard, overlay, frontend sync and other new cyberface updates are to be included in the next update. It will unfortunately not feature an updated UAAP roster (which was expected to be in v10) as we are currently lacking the manpower to update the college teams. Kuroko V Slam Dunk's next update after the Kanagawa Update will complete the 15 Slam Dunk teams, adding Aiwa Academy, Daiei Academy, Jousei High, Meihou High, Ryokufu High, Sannoh Industry Affiliated High, Toyotama High and Tsukubu High. This will allow us to finally play Association & MyCareer modes in Kuroko V Slam Dunk. Presentation files are also expected to be released once Kuroko V Slam Dunk is no longer in beta. FIBA 2K14 v5.0 is the next expected update after v4.2 where we plan to add the teams that will be participating in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament instead (previously all of the teams that participate in continental tournaments which was proven to be unrealistic in terms of workload).

Kuroko V Slam Dunk: Kanagawa Preview - Miuradai & Takezono Trailer

Another team trailer is released for Kuroko V Slam Dunk's Kanagawa Update which is revealed today to be Kainan University Affiliated High (or better known as simply Kainan), rival to Shoyo and is considered the best team in the district of Kanagawa, led by the best player in the district, Shinichi Maki.

Miuradai High and Takezono High YouTube Video Trailer

Miuradai, the first team Shohoku faced in the regional tournament, as well as Takezono, the team they faced in practice after the practice game against Ryonan which was seen in the first Slam Dunk OVA (Original Video Animation) will be added to the next update for Kuroko V Slam Dunk. Miuradai was the first team Shohoku played in a real match and had the secret weapon which we all know what happened to with Sakuragi. Takezono was the team Shohoku had a practice match against after the practice match against Ryonan where the star of the team, Oda, was the boyfriend of Sakuragi's last crush before Haruko. Takezono was also the team that was eliminated in the regional tournament by the next team to be previewed, Kainan. As two of the minor teams that Shohoku faced, there are two other teams from Kanagawa that did not make it to the next update, namely Tsukubu and Takezato. All of the remaining teams will be added to the next update which will complete the 15 Slam Dunk teams. The video is once again by me.

New Jukebox by zackiritoryan & Cyberfaces by Seushir0

zackiritoryan of NLSC made a major contribution to Kuroko V Slam Dunk and as such is now considered part of the very small modding team we have. The jukebox features all of the soundtrack from both anime, with two OPs & four EDs from Slam Dunk, seven OPs and seven EDs from Kuroko No Basuke. All of the cyberfaces of Miuradai & Takezono's players are made by Seushir0.

Future of Kuroko V Slam Dunk

The update for Kuroko V Slam Dunk is expected to be released this weekend. It is considered part of a new phase of updates dedicated to bringing the best NBA 2K14 experience to you, this year in 2016. A final short trailer will be released for the last team to be added to this update, Kainan University Affiliated High, from the Kanagawa prefecture. More teams will be added to complete the 15 Slam Dunk teams and for Kuroko V Slam Dunk to no longer be in beta. The teams to be added are Aiwa Academy, Daiei Academy, Jousei High, Meihou High, Ryokufu High, Sannoh Industry Affiliated High, Toyotama High and Tsukubu High. This update also fixes a lot of glitches and includes new cyberface updates for a lot of players.

#MedSpeaks : Did NBA 2K Plan to Support Modding?

I personally checked the gooey_nba_dlc.iff file for NBA 2K14 (PC) and this is the first texture I found. You can also check this file by opening it with the NBA 2KX ModTool, NBA 2K 3DM tool or RED MC. Remember, "dlc" means "downloadable content". NBA 2K9 was the first NBA 2K game to be released for the PC. The graphics look like NBA 2K10 with images of players from the bottom to top: Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets, and what seems to be a basketball player not belonging to the NBA.

Now, look at the player in the top screenshot, it definitely looks like Rukawa, and it does seem like him because of the accessory (black arm band below the left elbow) and a white jersey (most probably the white Shohoku jersey) and overall likeness. Sometimes, 2K doesn't update some of the files anymore as we can see from multiple textures when we check out the files. Could this file have existed even back in NBA 2K10 or 2K11 when 2K developers realized people had already started developing mods for NBA 2K9 and 2K10? Does this mean that NBA 2K was secretly developing Slam Dunk rosters for NBA 2K10 2K11? Or did it mean that modifiable rosters were supposed to be downloadable content? It looks as if what the Kobe Bryant and Yao Ming screenshots are implying is that user-created rosters would have also been available to download as downloadable content. This may have been discontinued due to licensing issues (similar to how some NBA Legends have appeared and have been removed from the game such as Chris Webber or the 1992 Dream Team with Charles Barkley). It could also be possible that the user-created rosters were made unavailable due to the upcoming rise of the current sensation in NBA 2K's MyTeam mode which heavily features use of retro players and special edition players. Although it wasn't until NBA 2K11 that retro teams officially made it to the NBA 2K games as only NBA Legends where included in former NBA 2K installments. Copyright laws may have also forbidden NBA 2K from allowing downloadable content as anime mods to be officially added to the game as they simply do not have the rights to Shonen Slam Dunk's characters and other assets.

Who knows? It's certainly crazy to think there could have been anime teams and user-created content in official versions of NBA 2K. It could possibly have opened up to developing mods for the console version of NBA 2K at the time (PlayStation 3 and XBox 360). While it is clear that NBA 2K tried to push for allowing user-created content in its franchise, it looks like they were unable to do so. It seems as if 2K could not acknowledge mod development for the game publiclt, however is most certainly aware of it.

Modding has existed for many years in other games with most games nowadays publicly accepting it. While it seems like 2K legally can't allow this or at least state publicly that they fully acknowledge it, it doesn't mean that modding never came to mind in the NBA 2K headquarters.

As for updates, we're currently taking a break. My personal computer is currently in maintenance for the new year to ensure steady performance in 2016. This short break will hopefully end within this month of February where the PC will finally be usable again. The purpose of the break is to ensure that mods will continue to be released in 2016, allowing the PC to rest and perform faster as I have files to be removed to make more space on the hard drive. The first updates to be released when I return is the NBA All-Star and Trade Deadline update for the NBA rosters and the Kanagawa update for Kuroko V Slam Dunk. As for PBA 2K14, as usual we have to wait a couple of weeks for teams to play first to be able to see all of the new jerseys and logo for the Phoenix Fuelmasters. We'll also be including Alaska's black jersey during the finals. FIBA 2K14 v4.2 has taken a stepback due to missing cyberface issues that will hopefully resolved soon. Thank you everyone for being patient with us, we hope you enjoyed the article and thank you! Here's to another great year in 2016!
