Considering Marvel & DC Comics-Themed Mods

Another YouTube Content Creator, W Gaming made a video where PBA players June Mar Fajardo and R.R. Garcia face Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk. For those of you that may not know, I am a HUGE Marvel & DC Comics fan. Today, I reveal my private work on a Marvel & DC Comics-themed mod for NBA 2K14.

W Gaming's YouTube Channel

Before everything, you should definitely check out W Gaming's YouTube Channel! He has modding experience which is very unique to this channel, as he is able to create videos showcasing very specific mods that are only available to people who are familiar with modding. That means, some of the content in his videos were implemented by him. His videos also feature Tagalog commentary, which contains some rather excessively strong language (swearing) if that kind of thing doesn't bother you. He has knowledge of mixing some of the mods from all of the series (Med's NBA Roster, FIBA 2K14, PBA 2K14, Kuroko V Slam Dunk), so check it out!

Marvel & DC Comics-Themed Mod

One of the popular mods in NBA 2K history was always the Marvel vs DC mod, where a team of Marvel Comics Superheroes & Supervillains take on DC Comics Superheroes & Supervillains, dubbed "Avengers vs Justice League", considered a two-team mod only. I personally have this mod and have put my own brand of editing on it, in my own private roster. I've implemented things such as the characters having accurate height, weight & body types, with positions, ratings, tendencies, signature skills and animations assigned to fit the characters. While the roster still uses the cyberfaces made by the original author, I have no way of contacting the original author of the cyberfaces in case I wanted to cooperate with him on bringing Marvel vs DC back to NBA 2K14 with my own personal touch on it, like I did with Kuroko V Slam Dunk after collaborating with KoroX and Seushiro. It sounds like something that is not possible to do, considering that so many cyberfaces are needed to be made, but this is a familiar situation that I personally experienced with Kuroko V Slam Dunk when it was only going to originally be a roster mod WITHOUT cyberfaces (you would have to manually implement cyberfaces yourself), until I was able to collaborate with the newly formed team of modders and we were able to release a full version of Kuroko V Slam Dunk (which will have an update this month).

It may seem like I am trying to bite a little bit more than I can chew since I'm already handling a lot of mods which all need regular updates (except for Kuroko V Slam Dunk), I'm actually already almost done with the roster. Of course I didn't add any new characters since I didn't have cyberfaces for them, and since I didn't really expect anyone to want some kind of mod like this from me until someone officially sent me a request.

The Concept

We were able to bring an absolutely awesome concept of 15 teams from Kuroko No Basuke to face off against 15 teams from Slam Dunk to reality, so here is my concept pitch for Marvel vs DC. Marvel & DC will have 15 teams each, comprised of superhero/supervillain squads in the comics/television/movies. Characters will have their first name for their secret identity (ie. Peter Parker, Bruce Wayne, etc.) with their last name as their superhero identity (ie. Spider-Man, Batman, etc.). The team lineups, for example, Marvel Comics may have the following 15 squads (for those who are familiar with Marvel comic book lore):

  • Alpha Flight (Guardian, Sasquatch, Shaman, Aurora, Vindicator, etc.)
  • Avengers (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Vision, etc.)
  • Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (Magneto, Sabretooth, Juggernaut, Mystique, Pyro, etc.)
  • Defenders (Daredevil, Elektra, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, etc.)
  • Fantastic Four (Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, The Thing, Silver Surfer)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy (Starlord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax the Destroyer, etc.)
  • Hellfire Club (Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost, Riptide, Azazel, Cassandra Nova, etc.)
  • Horsemen of Apocalypse (Archangel, Gambit, Psylocke, Polaris, Apocalypse, etc.)
  • Inhuman Royal Family (Black Bolt, Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, etc.)
  • Marvel Knights (Moon Knight, Black Widow, Dagger, Shang-Chi, The Punisher, etc.)
  • Masters of Evil (Doctor Doom, Loki, Baron Mordo, Enchantress, Ultron, etc.)
  • New Avengers (Spider-Man, Wolverine, Spider-Woman, White Tiger, War Machine, etc.)
  • Sinister Six (Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Electro, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, etc.)
  • X-Force (Cannonball, Colossus, Domino, Bishop, Warpath, etc.)
  • X-Men (Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Iceman, Jean Grey, etc.)

While DC comics may have the following squads (for those who are familiar with DC comic book lore):

  • Forever People (uhm, The Forever People, you know, the group that joins forces to become Infinity-Man?)
  • Green Lantern Corps (Green Lantern and a bunch of other Green Lanterns like Kilowog)
  • Justice League (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, etc.)
  • Legion of Doom (Vandal Savage, Cheetah, Bane, Metallo, Star Sapphire, etc.)
  • Legion of Superheroes (Superboy, Lightning Lad, Braniac 5, Saturn Girl, Bouncing Boy, etc.)
  • Rogues (Captain Cold, Weather Wizard, The Top, The Trickster, Mirror Master, etc.)
  • Suicide Squad (Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, The Joker, etc.)
  • Teen Titans (Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beastboy, Raven, etc.)
  • Young Justice (Wondergirl, Batgirl, Aqualad, Speedy, Miss Martian, etc.)

I've only thought of 9 squads for DC so far (Justice League is so huge it could probably be subdivided to Justice League and maybe Justice League Unlimited, named after the show, where the non-founding members of the Justice League are the characters). It would still need five more squads that I can't come up with on my own. Teams with few players will probably be filled with generic ones. As you can see, this will require a LOT of cyberface work and if you know someone who would be willing to collaborate with us and make this happen, please let me know! You can always contact me via the Contact page of the website.

I know some of this may come as a surprise to you but I've always been a fan of comics since way before, I just never thought to combine the three things I love (basketball, video gaming, and comics) into one thing).

Again, this is only a concept right now and is not a sure thing yet. This will only be pursued if a cyberface modder is willing to collaborate. This, if ever it is pursued, will also not halt the progress of the updates for Med's NBA Roster, FIBA 2K14 and PBA 2K14 as most of the work I do there is done as soon as possible, while the waiting for files such as cyberfaces, jerseys, or courts is what keeps updates from being released. We are open to ideas, suggestions or any recommendations for this. Please tell me if you are interested in the idea or if I should just scrap the idea entirely, thank you!

Download Links Up: Now Repaired

ALL of the download links are finally up and fully functional. We leave MediaFire, which we have used for many years for MEGA.

MEGA Perks

As we said in the previous blog post, MEGA's interface is extremely organized and is much more user-friendly than MediaFire's interface. Not only that, it is much easier to click and organize the files in MEGA. There are also options to lock links with decryption keys which we won't do since all of our files are public, and not private. No file size limits and full downloading will prevent the "internet connection interrupted" incomplete downloads.

MEGA Downsides

One of the downsides to this is that you can't close the tab/site while downloading, and that it won't be downloaded using your internet download manager. To be able to download from MEGA on mobile, you're going to have to download their official app.

The files are for Med's NBA Roster, FIBA 2K14, PBA 2K14, Kuroko V Slam Dunk have all finally been re-uploaded. Please remember that we had to re-upload around 8 GB of files for all of you to enjoy our work.

We apologize for the inconvenience that you experienced during the past couple of days and we thank you for being patient.

Download Links Down: Being Repaired

The download links on MediaFire are currently down. In our experience, MediaFire had long been experiencing hiccups with account suspensions and file removals. With all that being said, we are forced to move the files to MEGA for the mean time. We all hope you try to be patient with us as it may take a couple of days to successfully restore all of the broken download links.

Why not just make another MediaFire Account?

We actually use two different MediaFire accounts for uploading the files and BOTH accounts have been suspended. With that, we believe that simply creating another account will only inevitably result in the same situation we are in right now.

Why MEGA? Why not other file hosting websites?

MEGA provides a VERY organized interface for the uploader, even more organized than MediaFire's interface. This makes it easier to upload and update download links. There are also no file size limits to MEGA and does not download the file until it has been 100% completed, that means this will stop all of the "corrupt" file reports that are due to internet connection interruptions during the download period. The only downside to this is that you can't close the tab/site while downloading, and that it won't be downloaded using your internet download manager. MEGA, we believe is also not compatible with mobile downloading, which means you probably cannot download the files using your mobile phones, unfortunately. The only way to download files from MEGA on mobile is to download their official app.

Our preferred file hosting service is that of NLSC's, however, it only has a 100 MB file size limit. ZippyShare also has a 200 MB file size limit, which just won't do for the full packs that we upload. 4Shared requires registration from the downloader and makes you wait for 60 seconds before you can finally download the link. Other websites have fake advertisements disguised as download links which makes it difficult to download. Dropbox and Google Drive have traffic limits that shut down the link when accessed by too many people, as they were not made for mass downloading.

We understand that a lot of people want to download using their internet download manager. We are open to other suggestions for an alternative to MEGA, while we do recommend that you at least try it and share your experience using it. Feel free to leave a comment on the Facebook pages for your feedback.

Re-uploading Starts Now!

The files are currently being re-uploaded as we speak. We will first re-upload Med's NBA Roster files, then PBA 2K14 files, then FIBA 2K14 files, and finally Kuroko V Slam Dunk files. We will replace the download links with the new download links as soon as the re-uploading is finished.

We apologize for the inconvenience and we hope that you will be patient with the re-uploading. It will take, hopefully, only a couple of days to re-upload everything. Thank you everyone for staying with us! More updates to come for May!

Med's NBA Roster v3.9b & Universal Portrait Project v3.6b Released

A total of 12 players have been moved since the last update (March 26). 8 players have been signed, while 4 players have been waived. Three new courts have been added to the roster! This is the final update for the 2015-2016 NBA Season, although there might be a final update after the 2016 NBA Finals if necessary.

Player Transactions

The Philadelphia 76ers have signed Christian Wood, while the Cleveland Cavaliers sign Dahntay Jones. The Boston Celtics sign new player John Holland while the Memphis Grizzlies sign Bryce Cotton. The Miami Heat reunite with former 2006 NBA Champion Dorrell Wright, and also sign Briante Weber while the New Orleans Pelicans sign both James Ennis and Jordan Hamilton. Jared Cunningham has been waived by the Milwaukee Bucks while the Philadelphia 76ers waive Sonny Weems. Ryan Hollins has been waived once again by the Memphis Grizzlies and Chris Copeland was waived by the Orlando Magic. John Holland's cyberface is in Main Directory Files 20 which has been re-uploaded, so you have to re-download that pack to get his cyberface.

Retro Sleep Train Arena, #MambaDay Staples Center, and 2014 MGM Grand Garden Arena

#MambaDay concluded the amazing career of Kobe Bryant, and the Staples Center (LAL) had a special floor tribute to Kobe. We've added the special court by Mythbuster as an alternate court to the Staples Center (LAL). We also added another court, the retro Sleep Train Arena for the Sacramento Kings, which will be moving to a new arena next season. The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was the venue for the 2014 NBA preseason game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings. Both of these courts by Kieler 2K are added to the roster. These new courts require you to re-download Main Directory Files 20.

Future Updates

This will most likely be the last update of the season. A final update after the 2016 NBA Finals might be released if necessary. Otherwise, the next version of Med's NBA Roster (v4.0) will be next season. There will also be plans to keep Kobe Bryant in the game, while not making him a free agent, but these will all be surprises in the next version of the roster update. For the off-season, we will be focusing mainly on FIBA 2K14 & PBA 2K14 updates.

Universal Portrait Project Update

The Universal Portrait Project has also been updated from v3.6 to v3.6b. This update only adds the portrait for John Holland.
